The panel "Capitalist Urban Development" (1970) reconstructed a historical moment in political urban sociology: an occasion to draw upon the history of urban theory and to seek parallels to contemporary discourse. (part 2 continues in Bar Natascha, 21:30)

Der Panel "Kapitalistischer Städtebau (1970)" rekonstruierte einen historischen Moment der politischen Stadtsoziologie. Ein Anlass, die Geschichte der Urbanismuskritik, ihre theoretischen Bezugspunkte und historischen Annahmen zu diskutieren und in Bezug zu gegenwärtigen Theorien zu setzen.

Two presentations which showed how light, heat, inflatable and portable architectures can be employed to sensational effect - in unlikely urban and remote terrain.

Zwei Präsentationen, die zeigten wie Licht, Hitze, aufblasbare und faltbare Architektur an dafür nicht vorhergesehenen urbanen Orten für sensationelle Effekte sorgen können.

"The immediate city" - The enforcing of locality and physical presence. In its aura, appearance and suggestions of movement city_sensations as an architectural strategy intensifies the qualities of place, consciously exploiting impermanent materials such as air, light, water and heat, and transforming spaces otherwise built for the monotony of the everyday.

"Die unmittelbare Stadt" - Durchsetzung von Lokalität und physischer Präsenz. Durch ihre Aura und ihre Vorschläge für Bewegungen sind city_sensations eine Architekturstrategie, die die Qualität des Ortes ständig intensiviert. Flüchtige Materialien wie Luft, Licht, Wasser und Hitze transformieren Orte, die eigentlich Alltagsmonotonie ausstrahlen.

The burning man festival in the "playa" - the barren, dry, almost lunar landscape in Nevada, has grown from a population of 1000 to 25 000 over the years. The terrain provides an amazing blankness - and temporary, portable architectures including geodesic domes, mesh, lighting, reflective mylar and inflatables are amongst the materials used to create an instant urbanism within a number of days.

Die Besucherzahl des Burning Man Festival in der "Playa", die karge, mondähnlichen Landschaft in Nevada, hat sich über die letzten Jahre von 1000 auf 25.000 erhöht. Mit einer temporären, tragbaren Architektur: Traglufthallen, Drahtgeflechte, Beleuchtungen, reflektierende Mylarstoffe entsteht innerhalb von Tagen einen "instant urbanism".

John Warwicker is the founding member of the legendary design group Tomato, whose much-imitated style rests upon an inexhaustible gathering of motifs and inspiration from the urban landscape, and the transformation, and re-sampling of this urban fodder for a diverse range of clients.
